Eastwoods Nurseries of Washington is open for visitors without appointment; they will be open May 26-28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p. m. They have been growing Japanese maples, their specialty, for about 20 years. They have published a photo database on a CD of them and recently appeared in (Feb. 2007 issue) Fine Gardening Magazine. The trees vary from small, one year grafts up to large, field grown specimens. Over 300 different maples grow here. They also have a selection of unusual conifers and ginkgos. May 31: Promotional Opportunity

Sperryville has been chosen by the Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission (RRRC) as the site for its next regional “Living Towns’ meeting on May 31. More than 100 government officials are expected to attend the daylong meeting, which will focus on issues such as preserving an agricultural and rural character, appropriate economic development and marketing the community to visitors.

Participants will be sent home with a gift bag designed to be used on a return trip by participants. Businesses are encouraged tq donate items such as key chains, pens, a bag of candy with a card attached, or any gift that will fit in a tote bag and promote your business. Creativity is encouraged. Also welcome are discount coupons; e.g. 15% off store items, free dessert with dinner, third nk^it stay discount, etc. We are looking for at least 100, and preferably 120, of whatever* items a business would want to donate to include in this bag. There will also be a tables set up in the Living Towns meeting area, to be held at the Sperryville Schoolhouse, where businesses can display their brochures or other promotional materials.
