June 14: TRIAD signing
The Office of Attorney General Robert F. McDonnell, and Sheriff Sherertz and Major Williams invite you to attend a formal signing of the TRIAD Partnership for Rappahannock County. TRIAD is a cooperative agreement between seniors and law enforcement, and interested groups, working together to develop, expand and implement effective crime prevention and safety programs for older Virginians. The signing will be held on June 14, Thursday, at 1 p.m. at the Washington Fire Hall.
According to the Federal Administration on Aging, while senior citizens currently account for 15 percent of the national population, they are victims in 30 percent of all fraud cases. TRIAD S.A.L.T. Councils (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) are busy year-round building crimefighting relationships between older citizens and their local law enforcement representatives. Both groups benefit, the community by sharing goals, desires, information and resources. Through the TRIAD program, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Rappahannock County seniors will work together to better understand the issues facing the elderly and what can be done to reduce scams and victimization.
Under the TRIAD program guidelines, local group leaders form a SALT council.
Members will focus on topics such as avoiding criminal victimization, and increasing involve-' ment in neighborhood watch, fraud, scam warnings, and elder abuse prevention. Following the signing, a meeting will be held for all seniors, officials and county residents interested in being part of the program. June 23: Help the parsonage
Rappahannock United Methodist Churches are hosting a breakfast, bake sale, silent auction and tagged item sale at the Flint Hill Fire Hall on Saturday, June 23. “Love" offerings gratefully accepted. Donations will be used for work on the parsonage. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. and music will be provided by Flint Hill’s own Richard Brady.
