Rumors spread that a slowing housing market has stopped the mammoth Clevenger’s Village project in its tracks.
The development planned on Rt. 229 is just miles from the Rappahannock County border line as you head west on U.S. 211 out of Fauquier County.
The rumors apparently are wrong. Officials with developer Centex Homes say the first homes will likely appear next spring.
“We’ll try to record first 70 or so .lots,” Centex spokesman William Neville said. “We feel that gives us a good start, the plan takes care of being able to build homes.”
Construction of water and sewer plants is under way, at a cost of $17 million. Construction equipment dots the Stevensburg site, where workers are grading the land in preparation of the first houses.
The project comprises a total of 776 lots - along with commercial buildings and a Main Street community. Officials expect to build in seven phases within the next several years.
But first the company must build the plant and get approval from the county supervisors. The board has approved the zoning, and will view plans for the first phase
