Mountain View Christian Academy 37-35 in overtime on Jan. 7. From there they went on to tally a five-game winning streak that ended this past Monday with a loss to Wakefield in the Plains.
The team is now 6-7 overall, and 2-0 in the conference. Last year the team was 8-14.
“We’re obviously a much better team right now than we were when we first started playing,” said Wakefield athletic director Mike Kenney.
Kenney helped hire Coach Bodine this past summer. He said he saw her passion for the game.
“I think she can relate to the kids well and I think that she has the knowledge,” he said. “Kids are not stupid. They can sense when someone knows what they’re talking about, and I think she has gotten their attention and 1 think she has gotten their respect.”
Bodine grew up in Queens, New York. She played street ball at ‘The Cage,” the renowned court in Greenwich Village.
She got her start in coaching 16 years ago with the New York Gazelles, an elite girls’ team from Queens and went on to take a string of coaching gigs in Maryland.
Two years ago she accepted a coaching position with Ifeam Unique, an Adidas-sponsored travel team from the metropolitan Washington area. She still coaches for the team in the spring and summer.
Bodine currently lives in Centreville but will be moving to Flint Hill, where her husband bought land.
With Wakefield so dose by, coaching the girls’ team seemed a natural choice.
