Senate, a bill advanced that would simply repeal the fees. There was an effort by Republicans to make the repeal effective immediately and to provide relief for those drivers who have been convicted of offenses that would require them to pay fees for the next two years. On a straight party-line vote, the Democrats resisted and rejected those amendments and advanced a bill that would have continued to subject Virginia drivers to these discriminatory fees until July 1 of this year, and with no relief for those drivers who already have been assessed with these fees.
