Rappahannock County will host its first farm tour in nearly 20 years this weekend and the timing couldn’t be better.
Sustainable farming, which has come to the forefront of Rappahannock's agricultural way of life, is in the national news almost daily. Last week First Lady Michelle Obama opened the newest Freshfarm Market in Washington, D C., just blocks from the White House.
And who was there to greet the First Lady and offer her the freshest organic produce around?
Rappahannock County’s own The Farm at Sunnyside located in “Little” Washington. All across America, folks saw the familiar Sunnyside logo as the backdrop for the evening news report that ran nationwide.
Supporting sustainable agriculture is the message that Rappahannock’s farmers, vintners and horticulturalists will share with visitors from around the region who are coming to experience and learn from Rappahannock’s stewards of the land.
Students from Headwaters Foundation’s Farm-toTable Program, Belle Meade Farm School and Mountain Laurel Montessori Farm School, who represent the future of sustainable farming, will also present informative, hands-on demonstrations and tours throughout the weekend.
