Varsity Volleyball
The rivalry match was intense but the WCDS Owls dropped a CAC match to Wakefield School of The Plains 3-1 on Sept. 17. The scores were 16-25, 25-22, 10-25 and 6-25. With few overall service errors, the team played hard in game one, aiming from behind to take the second game, only to lose steam in games three and four. We played an exceptionally well organized and mature team who were able to find the holes for several earned points. Isabelle Eastham and Jessica Lester were able to slow them down with six blocks between them. Amanda Carroll's six kills and Jessica's five kills led the defense. We were able to play good volleyball at times but unforced errors and solid play by our opponent shortened the final two games.
The team followed up this disappointing loss with a 3-0 win over Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy, a historically domineering team, in a nonconference match. The scores were: 25-18, 25-18 and 25-17. All members of the team contributed to the win. The statistical leaders were Cynthia Rodriguez and Christine Pankowr with 100 percent serving. Suzie Toske and Jessica Lester had six kills apiece.
