“Apple Tree Cottage" is a tribute to the ingenious creative ability of Mr. and Mrs. Henlng, who took *15 0-year-old cobbler's shop and transformed it into .a delight-’ ful home. So thoroughly is exhibited the appreciation of the charming old log house, that Mr. Honing refrained from parting with a bit of the original building; lie used the pieces of old chestnut logs cut to make % small window hr placing them before a door for 4oor-steps.
The garden! at “Apple Tree Cottage" are on three levels on the'tide of the hill. 'The garden on the house level is true English style, an outdoor living-room. The top level garden, in the process of being made, affords; a ^ieW of Skyline Drive. r* 1 '
Tea was. served at “Mont Medi” with Mrs. C. R. Hite and Miss Dollie Hite, assisted by Mrs. J. D. Yowell, Mrs.- Gilbert Weakley, Mrs. Lucio Kilby, and Mrs. J. G. Revercomb. Miss Dollie conducted 4 tour of tho home, showing a picture of tile ancestor, Isaac Hite, attired in the costume wf the era of knee breeches, and told giiests that the distinguished gentleman had. the honor of being the first initiate in Phi Beta Kappa at the College 'of W ilHam1 and' Mary.
