Critzer Appointed
Sheriff Of County
J. W. Critzer was appointed sheriff of Rappahannock County last Thursday at the session of the circuit court by Judge J. R. H. Alexander, to fill the unexpired term of former Sheriff James M. Lillard, who died Sunday, May 14.* ‘" Mr. Critzer was in service during World War 1, serving 13 months overseas, three months of which he served in the Army of Occupation, at the conclusion of ‘the war. He participated in three of the major battles of the war.
Mr. Critzer married Miss Robbie Hefterick of Rappahannock. They have one son, Wallace Critser.
Mr. Critzer, whose home was at Avon, Nelson county, was a former employee of the State Highway Department for 22 years. During this time he held the position of superintendent pf construction work for 16 years, and also served as sergeant- of various road camps throughout the State.
Guy Burke was reappointed as deputy sheriff. -
Building Program
'■' A building program is bursting Out with rush speed on the highway between Washington and Bperryville.
At Hampton Inn, Dan S. Price and Gibson Wharton are enlarging the kitchen and dining room facilities. Construction at the rear of the present kitchen, not visible from the road, is completed and the-new quarters will fee ready for occupancy at an early date.
A building project on the north side of the road near the entrance to the Willie Wood place is reported to be a future restaurant, being built by-George Wood
On the south side of the highway near his home, John Wayland is constructing a building to be used as a roadside stand for selling apples
