ANNIVERSARY SERVICES’ V AT HOPEWELL CHURCH

The Hopewell Baptist church of Sperryville began the celebration of its 74th anniversary Wednesday,"May 2.4. Sunday, May 28,,an all-day meeting will be he(d.. Sunday School will be held at .10;:30 a.m. with Brother P. S. Green* of the Washington Baptist church opening the Sunday school lesson. The morning service will follow at 11 a.m. with the pastor of the church, Rev. L. M. Carrojl delivering the sermon. At 3 p,m. th« anniversary sermon will he delivered by Rev. Robert C. Davis of Washington, D.C.,. and music , will Jbe rendered by the Baptist, ch^ir of Washington. ., * .

The Hopewell church was .qrganized in 1876 with Rev. J.qhn Ganes as the first pastor..with; a membership of 23 persons. Before the church was built the members worshiped at the Reynolds, ,.Memorial church with Rev. Charles Lewis Yates as pastor. : Prayer services were held at the home of Sister Caroline Terry.

The late Mr Polk Miller, grandfather of Mr. J C. Miller, ot itichniond, donated the land for. the new church, which was huilt in 1322 d: ring the pastorate of Rev. "J. L. Williams. !
