Bumper Fruit Crop
Predicted for 1951
Prospects for a bumper fruit crop in 1951 was predicted by A. H. Teske, horticulturist at VPI, at a meeting Friday night of the Frederick County Fruit Growers Association. '
He said present conditions indicate a crop of about 12 million bushels of apples in Virginia. He stressed the need of improving apple quality, asserting that some poor quality went into the markets last year hurting sales and depressing prices.
Peach damage has been great in Virginia as a result of freezes, Teske said, but even so prospects are still brighter than they were a year ago. Delicious apples injured by winter freezes may have suflFeredabbpercenttoss. ~
