Telephones of Yesterday—The telephones shown above are representative of the types of instruments used by Bell System subscribers from 18*7 to 1900. The 1877 box (upper left) was sometimes as much as 14 inches long. You could talk and listen over the same instrument The dignified 1891 wall model (third from the left at bottom) made the telephone an ornament in any home. These are rarities now and have been sought by antique dealers at fabulous prices.
