“Intimate, revealing arucies about colorful New York personalities”—phew! Don’t embarrass us. Intimate, revealing articles, besides being extremely vulgar, are more than likely also poor taste. And why insult me by insinuating I’d be interested?
As for “colorful personalities,” I’m sorry to have to tell you, Mr. New Yorker, but your proportion of such is so far outshone by t.ie proportion in my home county of Rappahannock, that you can’t find me exhibiting much enthusiasm. You see, sir, out of your millions of citizens, you find a sufficiently small number of “colorful personalities” to justify your writing an article on one or a dozen-or-so of them. Here in Rappahannock, (with a population around 6,000, we have so many personalities— and “colorful” is a mild adjective —that if we began now and printed ten in every edition of the paper, we wouldn’t even have caught up with the older generation by tne end of the present decade.
