The largest of the Washingtons is the national capital with 802,178 inhabitants; the smallest is Washington, Nebraska, with 56 inhabitants. Second in population si*e is Washington, Pennsylvania, with 25,994 inhabitants. Washington, Indiana, ranks third with 10,987; Washington Courthouse, Ohio, fourth with 10,543; and Washington, N. C., fifth with • 9,698.
Washington, Virginia, outshines all the others for a number of seasons: (1) it enjoys the unique privilege of being located in Rappahannock county; (2) it is the “First Washington”—until somebody proves it isn’t; (3) it is the only Washington governed solely by ladies; and (4) it is the only Washington where the mayor received a letter addressed “Washington, near Woodville, in the U. S. A.”
Twelve of the Washingtons each have more than 2,500 inhabitants, the Census Bureau’s base figure for classifying municipalities as urban.
