Gold Cup Race To Draw
Large Field of Entrants
Russell Arundel, secretary of the Virginia Gold Cup Horse Race Committee announced today that owners and trainers of race horses have assured him of the largest number of entries ever to go to the starting post on Saturday, May 5, at Warrenton's famed race course. He was particularly optimistic at the large number of horses that are “pointing” for the classis Virginia Gold Cup to he run over four miles of the biggest timber fences in Virginia. Among other entries promised to the WarDenton Race officials are Mel's. Amory Carhart’s Mister Mars, second in the 1949 Maryland Hunt Cup; Mrs. Norman Toerge’s Free State, winner of last Saturday’s Middleburg Hunt Cup; P. T. Chelf’s Friar’s Melody, winner of. the timber race at Richmond on April 14. Mr. Arundel stated that he expected not less than Jo or 20 fffWber toppers to run for the traditional gold tnmh.v ,.
