“Quick,” he said to the waiter. “If they haven’t eaten the watermelon, 'bring it back and we’ll give it to the salesmen.”

The Iwaiter reported that it was too late—the minister^ were eating the prized dessert.

“Well,” demanded the excited chef, “what did they say? How did they like it?

“Don’t know how they like it,” the waiter said, “but they’re all putting the seeds in their pockets.”

A letter to the editor in a city paper the other day made this statement: “It is a sad commentary that a great military General went through all those battles unscarred to be kicked by a Missouri mule.”

Just think of it: one of our good men in Rappahannock has been reporting weekly to the local paper about his trips far and wide, trying to locate a mule. He said he was going to Texas, to Arkansas, and various other remote spots, looking for a mule. ’Tis sad to think of all that wasted time and effort, if it is- true that he could have located the braying, ill-begotten animal only 68 miles from his own front door. ,

An Appreciation

The Woman’s Society of the Methodist church of Flint Hill wishes to say how much they enjoy and appreciate the Church Directory in the paper. We hope this will be a permanent feature in your paper,
