VMI Graduate

Lexington, Va., June--Some 230 first classmen at the Virginia Military Institute will be candidates for the baccalau: reate degree at graduation ; exercises to be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 11.

Among the degree candidates is Cadet John E, Decher III, of Amissville, Va. He is a candidate for a bachelor of arts degree in history. He is enrolled in the infantry division of the Army ROTC. He :will be commissioned in the Marine Corps Reserve. He is a cadet lieutenant. Cadet Decher is co-captain of the varsity track team. He has set records in the broad jump. He has a 24-1 1/2 leap that is a school record and qualifies him for the NCAA championships in Provo Utah in June. He completed in this year’s indoor championships In Detroit after tale ing the Southern Conference indoor crown in the league meet at VMI. He was graduated from Christchurch School in Christchurch before coming to VMI. He is the son of Colonel J. E. Decher, Jr., L'SMC, Ret., of Route 1, Amissville.
