THERE WAS more discussion about the finances o f the dog fund, with general agreement that the existing higher fees for German shepherds are probably illegal under amended state law. Mrs. Eileen Days and Col. E. R. Luke offered some documents from the audience, along with C. J. Miller.
Then the Board started zeroing in on specific fees that might be charged in an attempt to make the dog fund self-supporting.
“Suppose we charge $5 flat for every dog,” George Davis said.
“George! For goodness sake!” Herbert Foster exclaimed. “You want this court house filled up for the next meeting?”
“Yes!” said Mrs. Coates and Newbill Miller, in one voice.
“I don’t own any dogs myself, but I don’t think you ought to raise the fee for males and females the same,” said C. J. Miller from the back of the room. “I would kick on paying $5 for an ordinary dog, and let a female get by for the same thing.”
