WHAT IS A Rappahannock Women’s Club? Not many people know but should. It’s not a social club as you might think, but a civic club geared to work in helping our county in areas that need support.
In 1969 the Club first met with approximately 15 members. Five members carried the Club until October 1970 when a tea was held to encourage other women in the county to join the Club. The tea contributed approximately 15 new members. The Rappahannock County Women’s Club has been striving for new members because they feel quantity helps quality, which means more members, more help for our county.
Activities during the past years have included donating to our high school athletic program, awarding scholarships to each Scout troop in the county annually, donating money to the Mental Health Clinic, donating time toward the Virginia State Department of Health Immunization Clinic, and the Blood Mobile, sending cookies to the Rec Cross for their Christmas Program, and participating in the annual House Tour and local parades.
The Club wants the county to benefit more from their efforts, but until now has not been able to because of financial backing. They have been working to earn a fundamental cash balance to support the Club by holding bake sales, selling placemats, note cards, stationery, calendars and other miscellaneous items for the past years. The Club now is at the point where the cash balance can support the Club. The Club now wants tc put it’s efforts into the county with full force.
On September 23, at 2 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Elementary School, the Rappahannock Women’s Club will sponsor a Harvest Festival Fashion Show with profits going toward the playgrounc equipment for the school. Southern Departmeni Store will present the show. Tickets are available from club members and at the door. Hel{ them help the county by supporting the Fashior Show. □
