ONE OF the nation s leading producers of canning supplies sent out a long press release this week telling about how their plant has been working fullspeed to try and meet the national demand for jar lids. They've been turning out three million caps and lids a day, seven days a week, and a company spokesman expressed surprise that no one is able to find them at the stores.
Similar accounts have been heard from other manufacturers. and a few officials in Washington have issued statements attesting to their investigations into the situation, and affirming the manufacturers' claims.
