But groundhogs aren’t the only local species that trouble Slaughter. He takes special watch over the hooved stock when there are young in the field. “A Great Horned Owl or a hawk could pick up the babies easy. So could a fox or a stray dog, which could dig under the fence into the paddocks. We’ve seen Bobcats on the place. But not inside the enclosures,” he said.
