A PANEL discussion on local land use and growth will be presented Friday, August 1, at 7 p.m. at the Rappahannock Elementary School. Members of the panel will be George Davis, Commonwealth’s Attorney of Rappahannock County; Peter Kramer, furniture maker and Mayor of Washington, Va.; Phil Irwin, president of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection; and W. P. Dinsmoor White, executive director of the Piedmont Environmental Council.
The Rev. Ronald Wiley, minister of the Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church, will be the Moderator. This is the final program in the eight-week lecture series on Solar Energy and the Environment sponsored^ by Nethers Community School of Woodville.
George Davis received his law degree from the University of Virginia. He also has been awarded the Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. He first became Commonwealth’s Attorney of Rappahannock County, by appointment in 1942. He then left Virginia to serve in World War II as an armed guard on a merchant ship in the Navy. For eight years he was a trial attorney in the anti-trust division of the Department of Justice. He was elected Commonwealth’s Attorney of Rappahannock County in 1958. Davis was an early leader in establishing zoning and subdivision laws in Rappahannock County to direct good land use and practice.
