Bradley believes his owl Gypsy to be the largest East Coast Great Horned owl. She’s even larger than East Coast Great Horned owls are supposed to be and is thus more the size of the Great Horned Owls of the West Coast. “So she has to be a female,” he concluded; among birds of prey, the female is the larger.
ANYONE who wants to keep a bird of prey can expect to spend two to three hours of daylight time with each bird each day. It’s not an avocation for someone with a nine to five job. Bradley said the divorce rate among falconers is the highest in the world; the only way to stay married is to be married to a falconer. “Then she can go play with her bird while you play with yours,” he said.
