WHAT we like about Rappahannock’s response—in the case of the community of Sperryville—was to begin working toward a solution that does not call for a growth-promoting, expensive sewer system. State authorities seem agreeable to a far more modest solution, involving what amounts to a huge community septic field. It would solve existing health situations, would not provide for any unwanted growth, and Sperryville’s status as a rural community would be preserved— all without growth, development, traffic, crowded schools, and all the rest of the mess that goes with this sort of situation.
