THE Department of Agriculture has announced some details of the 1976 Feed Grain and Wheat Programs. These details will provide farmers with the information needed to make their 1976 crop planting decisions.
There will be no acreage setaside requirement for the 1976 feed grain and wheat programs. Producers are not being encouraged to take cropland out of production next year because, even though this year’s corn and wheat crops are expected to be at record levels, export demand is strong.
There will be no conserving base requirement through the 1977 crop year. For 1976, producers may substitute any non-conserving crop (except marketing quota crops) Or any conserving crop used for hay or for grazing in order to preserve their feed grain and wheat allotments.
No early notice of wheat allotments will be issued by the County ASCS office for 1976. Notice of allotments and yields for feed grains and wheat will be issued jointly at a later date after they have been established for all commodities. The National wheat allotment for 1976 is 15 percent above the 1975 allotment.
