The foundation raises wolves in captivity, giving them enclosures of several acres to run in, and hopes to some day release them in their native wild habitat. Release will depend upon when a large enough wild area becomes available and when the public of that area is ready to accept the idea of releasing predators.
There are now 130 wolves at the Lobo wolf foundation headquarters in Gardiner, Washington. Their efforts may have saved the buffalo wolf from extinction. The last reported sighting of a buffalo wolf in the wild was in 1938. The buffalo wolf was named for his chief prey; two wolves working as a pair Could bring down a buffalo, so you can imagine the size and power of this kind of wolf, Bradley said.
