Public Assistance Director Elizabeth Buntin appeared before the Rappahannock Supervisors at the May Board meeting to present her department’s budget for the coming year. After Mrs. Buntin went through a brief explanation of some of the programs involved, the Supervisors still didn’t appear to understand the welfare budget, but they took no action to lower county funding levels.
Mrs. Buntin’s proposed budget totals $166,708—a decrease of $77,059 over the current year. The county’s , share comprises 19 per cent of the total and amounts to $31,976, an increase of $2,180.
“The whole welfare operation has become very complex,” Mrs. Buntin told the Board before beginning her presentation.
County accountant Walter Cox interjected that the state required a special form to be used in preparing public assistance budgets. With this form, expenditures are grouped rather than listed as line items, he said. State required forms used in preparing the county’s
