saw that there had been a decision to save the land and the integrity of communities. I don’t know anything specifically about that policy, but as 1 drove over the countryside for more than a thousand miles, I observed the results of such a policy. What can the U.S. learn from Great Britain and perhaps other allies? How can the continuing fact of change, and developing community needs, be guided by a vision of the future expressed through far-sighted and effective laws? We seem to be in only the beginning stages of thought and action in these areas.
Perhaps our first step should be broad community discussion among citizens, drawing upon the experience and points of view of the diverse worlds inhabited by each of us. Taking note of the concerns of many sorts of people should facilitate development of a consensus for action to ensure that individually and collectively we shan’t be driven from our Eden. Suggestions on how these discussions can best be organized are needed.
