Whether county funds are involved or not, the Rappahannock Supervisors apparently object to the Area Agency on Aging’s senior citizen nutrition program. Following a long executive session at the May Board meeting, Supervisor Chairman E. P. Luke was authorized to write to Chapter 10 officials in protest of the way the nutrition program began in the county. In a classic example of poor timing, the resolution was passed as the rest of. the nation celebrated “Older American’s Month”.
he Area Agency on Aging for 'Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Nine was created without county support. At budget time two years ago, the Rappahannock Supervisors turned down a funding request for $414 to help establish the Agency. The Board members expressed concern that the office would grow to involve thousands of dollars in appropriations from local government and would develop into just another welfare .program. Despite the Supervisors objections, the agency got off to a start with other counties in Planning District Nine as participants.
