Last week’s NEWS told of | an incredible situation in our county government which i calls for a response from its i citizens. Our Sheriff has requested a reasonable increase in his staff, to enable him to do the job for which we elected him. But our supervisors have tentatively denied that request, and refused to support his work, i citing financial reasons for doing so. And the facts in this issue need to be pointed out to all the citizens of this county. - 1
First, we must remember ' the manner in which Mr. Buntin came to office. He campaigned on a promise to do the job to the very best of his ability and to the very 1 limits of his fine qualifications. And we, the citizens of this county, elected him on that basis by a landslide majority, a majority that gave him the strongest of mandates to carry out his promise. And that mandate also applies to the supervisors, who supposedly represent those same citizens,
