Luke asked Mrs. Buntin for an explanation of the $22,000 increase listed in the county budget for purchased services. “What has happened between last year and this year to cause it to go up that much?”
“More programs,” Mrs. Buntin replied. Purchased services include all Title 20 programs and day care, she explained. Companion services included under Title 20 have been expanded with the program’s thrust now towards keeping people in their homes and communities rather than institutional nursing facilities, she noted.
(Figures given in the Public assistance budget document rather than in the public assistance category of the county budget show an increase of only $9,108 under purchased services. Apparently, the $22,000 figure cited by Luke is based on the difference between this year’s request and what the Supervisors approved for
