According to information supplied by John Summers, the county has five black teachers in the grade school, all of whom were in the system in 1963. Since that date, said Summers, only one black teacher has been hired—an instructor for the high school employed in 1977.
Summers said that out of 17 new teachers hired prior to the start of the 1977-78 school year, only one was black. He noted that the county has no blacks in administrative positions and none on the School Board. (Continued on Page 4)
