Once an alternative for upgrading the lagoon is selected, the School Board must get SWCB approval before construction starts, according to the Superintendent.
Problems with the sewage treatment lagoon began last winter. A deep freeze and subsequent turn over in the lagoon raised BOD and suspended solids levels above the maximum allowed by the SWCB. The system was shut down and discharge into the stream stopped. When new lower SWCB regulations on BOD and solids levels went into effect in June, the elementary school lagoon system dropped even further below standards and the school’s discharge permit expired.
The SWCB will issue a new temporary permit and allow the system to discharge effluent that meets special interim standards and the Board would be liable for legal action if the new standards weren’t complied with.

Evelyn C. Williams, who operates Lombardy Restaurant in Amissville, has been charged with felonious and malicious wounding on September 3, of Richmond Bowie of District Heights, Md.
Bowie was shot in the ankle following a confrontation at the restaurant, according to Trooper R. A. Baines, who investigated the shooting.
Mrs. Williams has been released on bond and is scheduled to be heard Oct. 21 in Rappahannock General District Court.
