There is a lot of disagreement among the lawyers themselves as to how legal costs will be affected by advertising. Some contend that the added expense of advertising will be shifted to clients, thus diluting whatever consumer savings might result from the increased competition. There is also a widespread reticence among lawyers to use the media for building up the responsibilities of the profession. It may be a long time before any real competitive advertising can develop.
All of which is not much help to anyone here who unexpectedly needs an attorney. But this community is gifted with effective and responsible lawyers. If the occasion arises, we know of no better advice than to ask a friend for references, specifically a lawyer experienced in handling the type of problem you have.
All attorneys in this complex age are not experienced in all areas of the law. You wouldn’t ask your obstetrician to do your heart surgery. He should refer you to a specialist.
