By DAPHNE McCULLOUGH Rappahannock New* Staff Writer The Rappahannock Board of Zoning Appeals sped through a short agenda at last Thursday’s meeting and then retired into executive session with Commonwealth Attorney George Davis.
Notably missing from the open portion of the meeting was any reference to the two pending court cases brought against the BZA in a controversy involved with the issuance, suspension and revocation of a special use permit in Sperryville.
Elmer Jenkins’s request for a permit to erect a sign at his business in Amissville was first on the agenda. Zoning Administrator Evan McNear recommended that the matter be postponed until next month’s BZA meeting, citing questions regarding state statutes on signs.
BZA Chairman Josef Gardiner interjected that the Board also had questions regarding Federal statutes.
In the meantime, continued McNear, a temporary permit could be issued to Jenkins. The Board unanimously approved the action.
