Mrs. Updike
Funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday, Sept. 14) for Mrs. Tenie Gaunt Updike of Sperryville at Clore Funeral Home in Culpeper. Elder C. R. Frazier and Elder Elmer Skeen officiated, and burial was in Robinson River Primitive Baptist Church cemetery at Brightwood.
Mrs. Updike, 88, died September 11 in Warren Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
A lifelong resident of Rappahannock, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Martha Racer Gore and a member of Thornton Gap Primitive Baptist Church. She was the widow of R. B. Updike.
Surviving are two sons, James D. Gaunt, Jr., of Samoa and John H. Gaunt of Luray; two daughters, Mrs. Jessie G. Palmer and Mrs. Mary G. Hottle, both of Sperryville; a brother, H. C. Gore of Fredericksburg; 11 grandchildren and a nephew, Milton C. Gore of Washington, Va.
