The Safety-Service Patrol of the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation will travel 260 miles of the state’s interstate highway system during peak periods of the Thanksgiving weekend to assist holiday motorists whose vehicles become disabled.
The specially equipped pickup trucks will operate from 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday, according to C. O. Leigh, the department’s maintenance engineer.
The trucks will bear signs to designate their function and will be equipped with safety flares and flags, traffic cones, fire extinguishers, water and other emergency supplies. Two-way radios will provide contact through base
