Some teenagers avoid alcohol and drugs, according to an article from Information Bulletin, AlcoholNarcotics Education Council, Inc., of Virginia. A study by the St. Louis County Office of Drug Abuse Prevention has offered some clues as to why some teenagers are not involved with alcohol and other drugs.
The study, believed to be the first of its kind taken in a Midwestern suburban area\ found these notable distinctions between youth who have not used alcohol or other drugs and those who have:
(1) By a nearly two to one margin, the non-users more frequently described themselves as having strong religious values and found religion to be helpful in solving their problems. (2) Non-users are less tempted to try drugs and alcohol. More than 80 par cent said their dose friends also were abstainers, while only 20 per cent of the users
