2. Computational skills (basically general math necessary for everyday life).
3. Social studies and citizenship.
4. Post-secondary employment skills.
As part of the pilot program, school^ divisions sent out questionnaires to parents, teachers and students in an attempt to identify and rate competencies as essential or desirable. Bloomer noted that the categories of social studies and post-secondary employment have sparked the most debate.
According to Rappahannock’s Superintendent, one faction questions whether the ability to list United States Presidents in chronological order is a necessary competency.
