Distinctive
Drevous’s hand-built mirrors are so distinctive that it would be difficult to choose just one. Along with the usual mugs and casseroles, she also designs light switch plates with a customer’s favorite plant design. She forms them by rolling out a slab of clay and pressing the actual leaf on it while the clay is still damp. She uses Queen Anne’s lace, strawberry leaf, cress and many unknown leaves that she picks on her walks in the woods.
The day we visited, she was glazing about a hundred light switch plates. Speckled clocks with battery operated insides were sitting in rows with butter dishes, tea strainers and interesting spice racks that held pottery herb jars designed especially to fit.
