frame house sets on its masonry foundation. The crack that exists where the frame structure meets the foundation sill must be caulked all the way around the house. Another area is where one portion of the house juts out from another. Any such break in the exterior siding must be sealed. Also, don’t forget those gaps around pipes or wires that penetrate to the outside.
If you have any cracked or broken windows, they should be replaced. If the putty holding your window glass in palce is dried up and falling out, it too should be removed and replaced with a durable plastic compound.
Stopping infiltration also requires the use of weatherstripping around any movable opening such as a door or window. This should be applied completely around the movable part in order to stop cold air infiltration when the opening is closed.
