Leake Wins
Sports Honor
Gary Leake, center and forward for the Rappahannock County High School Panthers, won honorable mention on the 1978-79 Skyline District All Star basketball team.
Leake scored a total of 312 points for an average of 15.4 to place him tenth in the district in scoring. He finished third in rebounding, pulling down an average of 11.3 per game.
According to coach Robert Moffett, Leake set a school record this year for rebounding. He added that the junior standout had also come in second in school records for percentage of shots hit from the field. Leake sank 52 per cent this year, right behind Danny Jett’s 56 per cent in 1977-78. From the foul line, Leake shot 80 per cent.
Moffett said Leake had been a consistent performer, never scoring less than nine points or more than 22. “I’m looking for much better and bigger things from Gary next year,” the coach concluded.
Leake, a junior at RCHS, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Leake of Sperryville.
