the needs of working parents who don't have anything suitable for their children to do after school,” explained Sursum Corda director Camille Harris.
Youngsters in the enrichment program are first given a substantial snack and then go to free play or a structured creative activity. “It’s their choice,” Harris said. “I don't think they should have to plug into something else at the end of a long school day if they don’t want to.”
In structured activities, Sursum Corda offers woodworking, crafts and art. For free play, options include playing games, listening to records, reading, drawing and playing with toys or playing on indoor and outdoor playground equipment.
Carol Murray, who has had seven years experience with day care, oversees the afternoon enrichment program.
In addition to afternoon play and supervision, Sursum Corda also provides morning child care beginning at 7 a.m. Youngsters who attend Rappahannock public schools can catch the bus from Sursum Corda to classes in the mornings and back to Sursum Corda in the afternoons.
For further information, contact the school at 6753237. Sursum Corda, a state licensed day care center, is located one-half mile from Washington on Route 626.
