Dr. Guth recently completed a mansion with adjoining guest houses and outdoor recreation facilities for cooperative. In an area where dairy farming has been a source of cash income for generations, Miller checks off the records of the 451 Holsteins in the milking herd and mentions the possibility of expanding the herd to 500 head. He grew up on dairy farms in Ohio.

“Island View looked like a tremendous opportunity,” said Miller of his move across the river last October after 15 years as herdsman and assistant manager of Belle Meade Farm in Culpeper County.

“There was a little bit of curiosity on my part,” he said.
