The Rappaahannock Farmers’ Market, scheduled to open May 1, is the talk of the county. Organized to help fanners, fruit growers and craftspeople from the community and surrounding area sell their produce, the market is not a profit making organization. 1ft will, however, operate a stand serving fruit juices, iced tea, hot dogs and other items to raise funds for contingencies. Farmers, fruit growers, gardeners, bakers and makers of handcrafted items are eligible for membership. They must apply, be approved and pay a $25 season fee for space which they rent from the market. Connie DelGrosso, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony DelGrosso of Flint Hill, was awarded second place honors in the Virginia Pork Photo Contest, sponsored by the Virginia Pork Industry Commission.
Connie’s photo of five little piggies staring wide-eyed and pointy eared at the camera was printed in the January issue of Country Life magazine and the February issue of The Porcine. In addition, she shared in cash prizes that totaled $200.
Connie helps her mother run a 23-acre farm near Flint Hill which includes feeder pigs among the resident livestock. A graduate of Rappahannock County High School, she is currently a student at Northern Virginia Community College in Manassas where she is enrolled in the aviation technology program for airport management.
