The survey by Arundel Newspapers has identified about 9300 acres—of the total of 781,500 acres in farmland in five counties of the Northern Virginia Piedmont—that have been acquired in the last three years by foreign nationals.
While some Virginia natives and native working farm owners may be apprehensive about this infiltration, there is evidence that many of the newcomers are doing what the natives are likely to understand best, and approve—working and improving the farms.
