A good voter turn-out in Tuesday’s election returned incumbent W. A. Buntin as sheriff of Rappahannock County and sent Douglas Baumgardner and Merle Scoggin to the court house as commonwealth attorney and commissioner of revenue.
Buntin won a landslide victory, defeating John Walker Jenkins by an almost three-to-one majority and Marshall Corbin by more than 27-to-one. County totals were Buntin 1,381, Jenkins 524 and Corbin 50.
Baumgardner carried all precincts in the contest for commonwealth attorney, just edging out Peter Luke in Flint Hill and Amissville but winning by a two-to-one margin in Washington. Totals were Baumgardner 1,186 and Luke 769.
