“Everyone in this room recognizes the importance of the bridge,” stated Julian Brown. As a rescue squad member, Brown said he had timed the length of the trip to the squad building without using the bridge. "There’s 55 seconds difference in answering calls,” he reported, adding that the timing had been done late at night.
From a safety aspect, Brown criticised the rerouting of bridge traffic by the Exxon comer. “You’re open prey” coming out on Route 211 at the Exxon station, he maintained. “You have to be quick and you have to be alert...or you’re going to get canned.”
Addressing the speeding problem on the bridge road, Brown maintained it’s “up to the people of Sperryville to pursue (offenders) through the courts.”
