The Catholic University of America School of Music Opera Workshop will give an encore performance, another “Evening of Opera Scenes,” at the old Washington school auditorium on Sunday, November 11, 7:30 p.m.
Many of the same students, who sang at the school in April will again be performing joined by new faces. Sunday’s program will include the love duets from La Forza del Destino, La Traviata, Rigoletto and Lucia, plus scenes from Cosa fan Tutti, Don Giovanni and Madama Butterfly. The program will also include familiar areas from Don Carlo, Tosca, Turandot and Madama Butterfly.
Dr. Donald Wiggins, reknowned as a trainer of opera stars, will again direct the Catholic University students. The talent he has collected for this performance exceeds the thrills he provided Rappahannock music lovers last April.
Tenor Young Ree Kang from Korea, who shook the house last year will again fill the hall with his powerful voice. Another Korean tenor, Choung Yuel Yol, and Jody Armi, a beautinil soprano from California, will join this year’s cast.
Few communities, especially in rural areas, ever have the opportunity to hear and see highly trained opera performers on their way to stardom. Many of the voices in the old school auditorium on Sunday should be familiar at the Metropolitan Opera within the next few years.
Tickets are $3 for adults and $1.50 for students with Children under 12 admitted free. Proceeds from the performance will benefit the Rappahannock Chorus, Wakefield Country Day School and the Washington Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad from whom tickets are available. Tickets will also be available at the door.
