Program
At a press conference on October 26 Governor John Dalton announced a heating assistance program that will provide cash payments, materials, and services to persons unable to pay the sharply increased costs of fuel this winter.
The program will run from December 1 through March 31 and persons may apply for the program on or after November 16.
In Rappahannock County the local department of welfare will administer the program with the assistance of the Area Agency on Aging. Applications will be taken by both agencies. Watch for a further announcement as to when and where to apply.
Aid to Dependent Children recipients and those persons whose income ,is less than 125 per cent of the poverty level ($4,250 a year for an individual and $8,375 for a family of four) will be eligible for the program, if they have a genuine need.
Households not already known to the welfare department will need to bring in proof of income and cash resources such as bank accounts.
